STAND LOCATIONS
Our stands are manned from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The guardstands are also supported by 9 patrolling ATVs and three QRVs, each manned by a certified EMT.

Corolla lifeguard stands are spaced according to beach population density and ocean activity rather than by equal distances.

COVERAGE ON CURRITUCK SOUND

The area of jurisdiction for Corolla Ocean Rescue also includes the Currituck Sound, which separates the mainland from the Outer Banks. The Sound is composed of brackish water and has a wind-driven tide. Corolla Ocean Rescue employs a 19 foot commercial width Carolina Skiff with a 90-hp Johnson outboard motor, capable of responding in very shallow water. There are no stands on the sound and rescue services are response based. If you have an emergency on the sound, please dial 911.

The Currituck Sound used to be a prime hunting spot as Corolla was home of many hunting clubs such as the Currituck Hunt Club, the Whalehead Club, Pine Island Club, and Swan Island Hunt Club. This area is still known for its wide variety of wildlife, specifically its waterfowl.
