We would like to thank everyone for a wonderful summer as we officially end our season on Labor Day. Lifeguards will continue to patrol the beach in rescue trucks and on ATVs through mid-October.

Fall days can bring beautiful weather in Corolla, and COR encourages all beach-goers to be aware of surf conditions and warnings by checking our Corolla Coast Watch blog before heading out to the beach. If you observe a swimmer in distress or any emergency situation, please CALL 911 and lifeguards will respond immediately.

We feel privileged to help keep you and your families safe during your beach vacations and we hope to see you all again next year!

About our Rescue Service:

Corolla Ocean Rescue (COR)
, a division of Corolla Fire and Rescue Squad, provides a minimum of 25 lifeguards during the summer months and peak visitor season. These lifeguards are either assigned to fixed tower locations or patrol the oceanfront on ATVs. The lifesaving operation covers about twenty-two miles of beach, serving over 1.2 million visitors per season. The mission of this lifesaving organization is to provide the safest beach environment possible. Corolla Ocean Rescue personnel focus on prevention of accidents through education of and interaction with the general public.

Corolla is located on the northern most part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is bordered by the Currituck Sound on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. The area is surrounded by wildlife, known mostly for its wild horses and water fowl. Also, because it sits just north of the Graveyard of the Atlantic (Cape Hattaras) this is an area rich in history and tradition.

The Corolla Ocean Rescue Season begins Memorial Day weekend and continues through Labor Day weekend. The operation consists of sixteen stationary lifeguard stands, nine roving ATV patrols, and three QRVs (Quick Response Vehicles) each manned by a certified NC EMT. Corolla Ocean Rescue is also responsible for responding for emergencies in the Currituck Sound.
